Project: Photoshoot for Coulture Magazine in celebration of the Black women who helped shape the history of rock music.
Excerpt from magazine:
"Popular culture from the 196os to the present day has allowed rock to be defined by white masculinity. Maroon 5, The Rolling Stones, Nirvana, The Beatles, The Who, etc. The list of globs of white men that you probably think of when you think of 'classic' rock is endless. But that could not be further from the truth of the genre's origins and the Black women who created the sound we know and love today. From Sister Rosetta Sharpe to Alice Coltrane and the Blossoms, Black women defined the sound of rock yet are rarely credited with handing the world a genre of music that will never go out of style.
"This editorial featuring an imaginary band, 'Black Glamoura,' having a tour stop at Cat's Cradle subverts what we know of rock and replaces it with the truth of the genre. Blackness plus glamour and guitars: sounds like a recipe for going triple platinum. Are you ready to rock?" - Clay Morris, Editor in Chief
